Greetings Crime Stoppers Supporters~
This month Crime Stoppers paid out nearly $5,000 in reward to tipsters. This is one of our biggest payouts ever. These tips led to 16 arrests in 14 cases including home invasion robbery, arson, and our 99th murder solved with help from Crime Stoppers.
While we are thrilled that more and more people are utilizing our program; our expenses are going up. I wanted to remind you of some of the ways you can support Crime Stoppers. As you know, we are a nonprofit, community organization and we are not funded by the government.

This month’s tips…
Crime Stoppers received a tip identifying the person responsible for the murder of Manuel Santiago. Santiago was stabbed near a Ralph’s grocery store in Hillcrest. On receiving the tip, SDPD conducted an investigation and arrested Richard Sherman. Investigators let us know that they had few leads in the case and credit this anonymous tip with Sherman’s arrest.
This was the 99th homicide solved with the help us a tip from Crime Stoppers in San Diego County.
For nearly a year, Crime Stoppers and CVPD have been publicizing an unsolved arson at Diamond Jim’s Night Club in Chula Vista with the hope of identifying the person responsible. Several months ago, Crime Stoppers received a tip that named the suspect in the case. After an investigation, he was arrested. The tipster is also eligible for an additional reward if the suspect is convicted from the Arson Reward Fund.
Crime Stoppers worked with the media to find the person responsible for a home invasion robbery in Chula Vista. A tipster identified the suspect and his location. He was arrested. The suspect was a parolee at large and on his 2nd strike.
We received a tip on a suspect who had been burglarizing 7/Eleven stores in Vista. The suspect was caught on surveillance video and the tipster recognized him. He was arrested for three counts of burglary.
Another tipster recognized a suspect caught on surveillance tape who was responsible for more than 100 cases of vehicle burglary. After receiving a hot tip, law enforcement ended up in a long pursuit of the suspect who was eventually arrested.
Escondido Police were able to arrest one of their most notorious taggers with the help of a Crime Stoppers tip. The suspect was arrested and charged with 157 cases of graffiti that caused more than $63,000 in damages.
We paid out rewards on four drug cases—two on middle school campuses. In both of the campus cases, the suspects were arrested for marijuana possession and in one of those cases, the suspect was also in possession of a knife. Based on another Crime Stoppers tip, the Sheriff’s Department arrested a parolee-at-large for possession, transport, and sales along with possession of a syringe and drug paraphernalia. Heroin and cash were also recovered. Chula Vista PD also received a tip on methamphetamine sales. The suspect was arrested for possession for sale and nearly 10 grams of meth was recovered.
Based on tips to Crime Stoppers three different fugitives were arrested and a weapon was recovered from a middle school student.
As you can see, we have had a busy month. We can credit our new web and text messaging tip lines with some of the activity. With our expenses increasing, Crime Stoppers could use your support today to continue our crime fighting mission.
All the best,
Sally Cox
